Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born to a musical family on August 9th, 1963, in Newark New Jersey the daughter of gospel singer Cissy Houston (nee Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. and cousin of singing star Dionne Warwick. In Newark Whitney, she began singing with the church choir in the early years of her childhood. When she was 15 years old, she joined her mother in the background vocals for Chaka's smash Im Every Woman from 1978. In the following years, she was a background vocals for Jermaine Jackson and Lou Rawls and even her mother.
